The ever-popular Catonsville High School Steel Band opens the Lurman Woodland Theatre 2016 season on Saturday, June 4, as the band has done for the past 15 years. Almost every following Saturday and Sunday evening during June, July and August, a wide variety of musical styles will be performed on the outdoor amphitheater's stage. Most of the performances will be by returning audience favorite bands, but a number of bands will be first-time performers at Lurman.
The concerts at the Lurman Woodland Theatre run from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday evenings during June, July and early August; later August concerts will start at 5 p.m. because of the earlier darkness. One concert (The Mahoney Brothers, on Sunday, Aug. 14) will run for three hours, from 5 to 8 p.m. Limited bench and picnic table seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and many people bring lawn chairs and blankets. Some food and refreshments will be available for purchase, or you can bring your own. A limited amount of handicap parking near the theatre stage is available from the Hilltop Road entrance. All concerts and parking are free, although contributions are gladly accepted. Pets, alcohol, drugs and grills are not allowed.
