Free weekend concerts in Catonsville feature bluegrass music followed by symphonic band

The Lurman Woodland Theatre Summer Concert Series continues Saturday, June 8, with Bob Perilla's Big Hillbilly Bluegrass taking the stage.

The group, whose home venue is in Washington, D.C., will perform a variety of blue-grass, folk and country tunes.

A frequent guest on many international stages, the band, which has five to seven members, features a variety of string instruments, including fiddle, guitar and banjo.

Sunday, June 9, is Baltimore Community Band Day presented by the Baltimore Symphonic Band.

Taking the stage will be a wide variety of bands from throughout the state, including groups from Rockville, Bel Air and Williamsport.

The daylong event begins at noon and will end with a performance by the Baltimore Symphonic Band at 6 p.m.

The performance will include an array of symphonic works and marches from the all-volunteer band.

The weekend shows begin at 6 p.m. in the natural amphitheater on the campus of Catonsville High School, off Hilltop Road and Bloomsbury Avenue.

Fans should bring chairs or blankets. Bench seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Food and drinks available for purchase. No alcohol, grills or pets.
