Letter: Westview Park concert series silent

Westview Park monthly concert series silent this sumemr

I deeply regret to inform you that the stage has gone dark for the Westview Summer Park Concert Series.

Funding for the concerts has decreased dramatically for several years.

Family obligations led me to step down as chairman after seven years. The EDRECO board asked for someone to step up to run the program but no one came forward.

The WPSCS gave the Catonsville community free entertainment on Thursdays during the summer for nearly 20 years.

We donated all money collected at the shows to the Catonsville Emergency Food Ministry.

We were supported by local politicians and businesses, as well as the Catonsville Times and the Catonsville community, for many of those years.

In the end, we were the victim of challenging economic times and could not generate the support given to other local concert venues.

Though I am sad at its demise, I'm proud of what we did.

I would also like to acknowledge, with gratitude, the help of Paul Schnieder, Jim Pizzillo, and Chick Szybor. The concerts would not have been possible without their efforts.

Thank you also to the many entertainers who graced the stage at the WPSCS, and the many people who came and supported our shows.
