A Catonsville Girl Scout troop is using newly acquired sewing skills to help others in need.

Toward the end of the previous school year, Troop 2188 made 15 stuffed animals to give to children in a homeless shelter.

The scouts plan to deliver the stuffed animals to Night of Peace Shelter in Windsor Mill, along with notes and books, later this month.

"Sometimes they're sad, and when you have a stuffed animal, it makes you feel better," said 9-year-old Kaitlyn Pfeiffer.

The endeavor was part of the scouts' Journey, a project that promotes problem-solving in the community.

When the idea of the project came to troop co-leader Misty Troll, she was not surprised. She was glad to see their skills come together for a good cause.

"They're a very caring group," she said. "They love animals, they love arts and crafts and they love helping. It was perfect."
