Saturday morning fun and games
The Family Time Festival Series continues Saturday, June 15, with "Father's Day Frenzy," featuring food, games and live music from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the open air courtyard behind Catonsville Gourmet and C'ville Bikes at 827 Frederick Road.
Scott Westcoat, owner of C'ville Bikes and sponsor of the event, said the series offers a themed party once a month.
The highlight of the event is the free live music, Westcoat said.
Saturday, local bands the Roadside Show, McFadden and Friends and Reality Jones will perform sets 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
"All our bands, every single one of them, have ties to Catonsville," he said.
Jason "Schwinny" Schwinabart, a professional mountain biker, will performi tricks in the courtyard on his bike.
Atwater's, Chef Paolino and New Belgium brewery will have booths set up Saturday and some local Catonsville nonprofits will also be present.
Westcoat said that since its start in October, the event has developed a reputation for being very family oriented and a great place to bring the kids and spend a day.
The event will also feature a silent auction, interactive games and raffles throughout the day.
Classic rock on Saturday evening
The Lurman Woodland Theatre Summer Concert Series continues Saturday, June 15, at 6 p.m., with the Back Pages Band paying tribute to the "Golden Age" of rock — that period from 1963 to 1973.
The band will perform hits from classic rock bands such as the Beatles and the Kinks, among others.
Offstage, members of the band work for the U.S. Postal Service, for a food distributor, for the defense industry as an IT consultant and as a tax lawyer, according to the band's website.
Fans should bring chairs or blankets. Bench seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Food and drinks available for purchase. No alcohol, grills or pets.
Bluegrass on Sunday morning
Three free bluegrass concerts will be offered by Catonsville United Methodist Church on Father's Day.
There will be no preaching, only music by the Annapolis Bluegrass Coalition during the 8:30, 9:30 and 11 a.m. services at the church at 6 Melvin Ave.
The Annapolis Bluegrass Coalition is a traditional five-piece bluegrass band from Annapolis. Guitarist Roger Green and mandolin player Dan Kimball are the lead singers with harmony by Sue Tice, who plays fiddle, and Bob Tice, who plays banjo. Jim Duvall plays bass fiddle.
The band will play a variety of venues in the mid-Atlantic area, including Milton and Lewes, Del., Vienna and Manassas, Va., Crofton and Davidsonville in Anne Arundel County, the Columbia Lake Front in Columbia, Chestertown and Bowie.
Sunday evening music
On Sunday, June 16, the Deanna Bogart Band will return to the Lurman Woodland Theatre at 6 p.m. with its unique mixture of blues, boogie piano and rhythm and blues.
Led by Bogart on piano and saxophone, the band performs music in an array of genres including jazz, country and contemporary blues.
Both weekend evening concerts are in the natural amphitheater on the campus of Catonsville High School, off Hilltop Road and Bloomsbury Avenue.
Fans should bring chairs or blankets. Bench seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
