Those interested in art or checking out young and talented artists in the area have a few days to catch the 2015 Catonsville High School student art showcase at the Community College of Baltimore County.
The how is on display in the Q Building art gallery at 800 S. Rolling Road on CCBC's Catonsville campus through June 7.
It includes a collection of 300 works by 100 students, said Edward Brannon, an art teacher at the high school.
"It's just sort of a retrospective of the entire year," Brannon said.
The work featured will include pieces from students at all different levels working in a variety of mediums, including paint, sculpture, digital, photography and print-making, he said.
"It's just sort of a mishmash of everything we do," he said.
The school organizes the show every year, Brannon said, but the excitement of the students who get to see their work on display at a real gallery never dims.
"Catonsville produces a lot of quality stuff," said senior Liam Mercer, 17.
Mercer has multiple works on display at the gallery, including a life-size charcoal drawing of a friend in mid-serve during a tennis match and a large oil-on-wood work depicting standout Comet field hockey player Emma Clark dribbling the ball through the air.
Mercer said he has taken art classes every year of high school, but his Advanced Placement art class this year has allowed him a new flexibility in determining the his subjects.
He spent a lot of time working on drawings and paintings of athletes in action, he said, something that is reflected in his work on display at CCBC
Senior Rhea Montgomery-Walsh's portrait of classmate Maja Wichhart, which won multiple awards at the Baltimore County High School Art Exhibit on May 28, will also be on display at the art showcase.
"I've been basically doing artistic stuff and creative stuff since I was like 2," Montgomery-Walsh, 17, said.
Most of her work focuses on portraits. She said her favorite part of the Catonsville exhibition is checking out all her peers' work.
"We actually have a lot of really talented artists," she said. "It's really neat being midst all these talented people."
