Baltimore County is seeking applicants for 10 grants that will be awarded to organizations offering tobacco education and prevention programs, the county health department said in a press release.
Grants between $1,000 and $5,000 are available to faith-based and community organizations, however, schools aren't eligible, the press release said.
The funding is available through the state Department of Heath and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) Cigarette Restitution Fund Program, created by the Maryland General Assembly in 2000 with funds from a 1998 tobacco settlement agreement between 46 states, five U.S. territories, Washington, and the five largest tobacco companies, according to DHMH information.
Programs must be offered within the county and must focus on: the prevention of tobacco use among youth; promotion of quitting; eliminate exposure to secondhand smoke; and/or identify and eliminate disparities related to tobacco use, the county said.
Organizations interested in applying are required to submit a narrative and budget proposal as outlined in a set of instructions available at: baltimorecountymd.gov/grants.
Although the deadline remains open until all funds are awarded, applicants are encouraged to apply by Feb. 1 2015, the county said.
