Free weekend outdoor concerts in Catonsville, Arbutus

The Greater Catonsville Chamber of Commerce's Frederick Road Fridays series of free concerts continues Aug. 16 with the blues rock of Blue Streak.

Concert is 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the parking lot at the Mews on Mellor Avenue. Visitors are encouraged to bring chairs.

Heavy Seas beer from the microbrewery in nearby Halethorpe and other beverages will be served by the chamber and members of local nonprofit organizations.

Proceeds from the Aug. 16 concession sales benefit Leadership through Athletics. The Lansdowne nonprofit provides programs that develop the leadership and athletic skills of youth in and around Baltimore.

On Saturday, Aug. 17, the Family Time Festival series returns with Woofstock, featuring a canine costume contest, in the Strawberry Fields courtyard, 820-828 Frederick Road in Catonsville.

In addition to live music and free children's activities from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the event will feature local food and beverages for purchase.

Also on Saturday, the Beach Bumz band will perform the music of the Beach Boys 4-7 p.m. on the parking lot at 5200 Selma Ave., in Arbutus.

The free concert is part of the Arbutus Business and Professional Association's first season of summer concerts.

Beer, wine, soda and water will be available for purchase.

Later on Saturday, the Columbia Concert Band will take the stage at the Lurman Woodland Theatre in Catonsville.

With approximately 90 musicians, the band plays a variety of styles of music, including pop, rock, jazz, classical and contemporary. The band also performs hits from popular Broadway shows.

The 6-8 p.m. concert in the wooded setting is free.

On Sunday, Aug. 18, the Majestics will perform a variety of Motown, old school R&B, and soul tunes.

The female vocalist and eight-piece band will keep the audience involved and moving 6-8 p.m.

Fans should bring chairs or blankets to the natural amphitheater on the campus of Catonsville High School, off Hilltop Road and Bloomsbury Avenue. Bench seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Food and drinks available for purchase. No alcohol, grills or pets.
