Maryland Sen. Ben Cardin will visit the Charlestown retirement community on Friday, June 5, to discuss the country and state's most pressing issues and field questions from residents and interested community members.
"Sen. Cardin likes to reach out to different corners of the community and talk about what matters to them," said Tim Zink, the senator's Baltimore-based press secretary.
Mel Tansill, public affairs manager at Charlestown estimated it will be the first visit Cardin has made to Charlestown in four years.
Cardin, a Democrat, is a ranking member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and co-chair of the Senate Committee on Finance's business income tax working group, as well as a member of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship and the U.S. Helsinki Commission.
Most recently, he has played a major role in the debate over whether or not Congress should have the ability to review any potential nuclear deal made between the White House and Iran.
Attendees can expect to hear the senator begin the event with a talk about the major issues facing Congress today before opening the floor for questions, Zink said.
With a diverse Charlestown population with an array of backgrounds and interests, he said, Cardin's office is expecting questions on a number of different topics.
"This is a chance for him to talk through the issues of the day," Zink said.
The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. and take place in the second floor gallery in the Charlestown Square main building, located at 715 Maiden Choice Lane, in Catonsville.
