One dead after Windsor Mill house fire Monday, fire officials say

A man caught in a Baltimore County house fire Monday afternoon has died, according to the Baltimore County Fire Department.

Ronald Eugene Wallace, 71, was found suffering from life-threatening injuries just inside the front door on the main level of the single-story family home in Windsor Mill, according to a news release. He was transported to an area hospital before succumbing to his injuries, the department said.

Fire crews were dispatched just after 2 p.m. and found “heavy smoke showing” at the residence in the 2800 block of Ridge Road, according to a news release. Crews got the blaze under control at 6:30 p.m.

A large portion of the first floor collapsed into the basement, hindering attempts by Baltimore County fire investigators to examine the scene and necessitating the evacuation of fire personnel, the department said.

No firefighters were injured and no one else was in the home at the time of the fire, fire department spokeswoman Elise Armacost said in an email.

A cause of the fire has not yet been determined, Armacost said.

The home was built in 1924, property records show.
