Baltimore County Fire Department crews worked to extinguish a fire Wednesday afternoon on Bitternut Court in Catonsville’s Patapsco Woods development that fire officials say engulfed a single-family home.
Multiple occupants inside exited the home and no injuries were reported, according to department dispatch personnel, but efforts to contain the one-alarm blaze have been underway since around 50 firefighters were dispatched at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday.
Baltimore County fire spokesman Travis Francis could not say how many residents lived there, but that the house was now “uninhabitable.”
The fire was brought under control at 5:15 p.m. and the cause of the fire is under investigation, Francis said.
Fire crews responded Wednesday afternoon to a neighbor’s report of a garage fire. Arriving firefighters saw the “garage fire had spread ... to the entire house,” Francis said.
“The whole house was just gone — it’s gone,” said Patapsco Woods resident Mel Tansill, who was driving to pick up his wife from work around 4:30 p.m. when he noticed the flames and emergency services vehicles.
