Arbutus man killed in collision after driver drove through red light, Baltimore County police say

Baltimore County police say an Arbutus man has died after the driver of a car in which he was a passenger drove through a red light and struck a sport utility vehicle in Arbutus on Sunday night.

Matthew Jacob Grosscup, 31, of the 900 block of Stormont Circle, was a passenger in a 2018 Kia Optima traveling eastbound on Wilkens Avenue toward Interstate 695 just after 9:30 p.m. as a 2019 Toyota Highlander was making a left turn from westbound Wilkens Avenue onto the southbound I-695 ramp, according to law enforcement.

The driver of the Kia, who police have not identified, failed to stop at a red traffic signal, hitting the Toyota’s passenger side and then a pole, police said.

Grosscup was pronounced dead at the scene. Both drivers suffered injuries that weren’t life-threatening, according to police.
