The son of slain Baltimore County police officer Jason Schneider threw out the first pitch at Thursday's Orioles game against the Chicago White Sox.
Brandon, 10, took the field at Camden Yards for the 7:05 p.m. game after attending a batting practice in the afternoon, where he met some players, said Orioles spokeswoman Monica Barlow.
She said the team is "more than happy to have him out. Anything we can do to help lighten the load for Brandon and help take his mind off of it for a little bit of time."
Schneider, an officer with the county's tactical unit, was killed while officers were attempting to serve a warrant at a Catonsville home Aug. 28, when he was shot by 25-year-old Tevon Smith. Schneider and a second officer returned fire, killing Smith.
Police were trying to arrest 16-year-old Rasheed Stanford, who was wanted in a previous non-fatal shooting in the area. Stanford was not at the house at the time but later turned himself in to police.
Schneider, a former Marine and Baltimore County officer since 2000, was buried at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens in Timonium Saturday.
"We're appreciative of the opportunity by the Baltimore Orioles for Jason's family and the tactical team that worked so close with Jason," said Cole B. Weston, president of Baltimore County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 4.
He said members of the tactical unit were planning to attend the game with the family.
