The yearling black bear that has been making its way through Prince George's, Howard and Baltimore counties over the past month or so spent its Fourth of July weekend picnicking in Catonsville.
It's unclear whether it made it up to the vaunted parade on Frederick Road.
Natural Resources Police officers were called twice on July 3 to Patapsco State Park, where the bear was enjoying the bare necessities, foraging and lying on a log in the woods near some nervous picnickers, DNR police spokeswoman Candy Thomson said.
"They went and found the bear in the woods and kept an eye on it for a while," she said.
As they watched the bear lumber around on the log, the officers decided to take a video of it.
Thomson posted the clip, with an officer smiling in the foreground and the bear in the background, on the department's Facebook Sunday. She called it a homemade "National Geographic: Catonsville."
"Lots of people have seen that bear on golf courses, backyards, schoolyards, the University of Maryland," she said. "It's been around about a month. We're hoping it moves out west. It's taking its sweet time."
