State grants will pave way for bike lanes in Baltimore County

Baltimore County officials say $229,600 in grant money from the Maryland Department of Transportation Bikeways Program will help pay for 23 miles of new bike lanes and other upgrades.

County Executive Kevin Kamenetz said Tuesday that new or expanded bicycle routes are planned for Dundalk, Towson, Lansdowne, Baltimore Highlands, Woodlawn, Catonsville and Arbutus.

Officials said the county's planning and public works departments will meet with community groups to review and refine current pedestrian and bicycle access plans. In addition to new routes, improvements will include bike lane striping, bike route signs and "share the road" pavement markings.
