A sewer overflow from a broken pipe near Hollins Ferry Road in the Halethorpe area went undetected for several days, and dumped about 100,000 gallons a day into the Herbert Run stream, according to the Baltimore County Department of Public Works.

Officials said the broken pipe was believed to have been caused by a fallen tree, which was reported Aug. 24. Crews were dispatched to the site and the repair was made.

Public works officials said the county's Department of Health will monitor water quality in the stream, publish results and issue water contact advisories when necessary on the Department's website.
