Maryvale poised to unveil McCarthy Hall on March 5

The grand opening of the newly constructed 28,300-square-foot Erinn McCarthy Humanities Hall at Maryvale Preparatory School will be celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday, March 5.

The building is named in memory of the late Erinn Kathleen McCarthy, Class of 2010, who died in 2007 after battling a rare form of bone cancer.

The building features a 500-seat auditorium, six classrooms, a technology resource center, music and practice rooms, theater dressing rooms, a sacristy and gallery and lobby space that can be utilized for school-related events.

"This is a giant step forward for our school," said Maryvale's president, Sr. Shawn Marie Maguire, "one that will allow us to expand the benefits of our students, teachers and the greater community."

The Erinn McCarthy Humanities Hall is part of a $12 million project financed by the benefactors of the "In Her Name: The Campaign for Maryvale." Under the leadership of Erinn's parents, Bill and Maria McCarthy, campaign co-chairs, Maryvale has raised $8.8 million of the $12 million goal.

"Erinn wanted this for Maryvale," Bill McCarthy said. "Her vision will impact the lives of current students and future generations."

The Most Rev. W. Francis Malooly, Bishop of Wilmington, will lead festivities and a liturgy March 5 at 12:45 p.m. Tours will be available following the ceremony.
