Swimming: Bryn Mawr tops Roland Park and Pallotti

Bryn Mawr topped St. Vincent Pallotti, 80-14, and Roland Park Country School, 63-31, on Tuesday night at Gilman in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland B Conference opener.

The defending champion Mawrtians started with a win in the 200-yard medley ( 1:57.84) in dominating fashion behind sophomore Margaret Pollack (backstroke, 30.7), sophomore Molly Weinstock (breaststroke, 35.1), sophomore Korby Simpson (butterfly, 27.0) and junior Georgie Crompton (freestlye, 25.0).

Sophomore Sloane Coffin swam a rapid 5:53.98 in the 500 freestyle, shattering her top effort last season (6:24.70) and her all-time personal-best (6:07.77) after a getting off to a quick start.

"At first I thought she was going to run out of gas going out that fast," Bryn Mawr coach Solomon Sniad said. "Sometimes, I tell my swimmers to attack the race — and that is exactly what she did."

Pollack and senior Emma Koramshahi put on a great show in the 100 backstroke.

At the halfway mark, the duo produced an even split at 31.9 before Pollack was barely able to out-touch her teammate, 1:06.37 to 106.48.

"The other girls on the team were excited to see (their teammates) swim practically the same race," Sniad said.

The Mawrtians and Reds will tangle again on Thursday afternoon at the same site with Seton Keough the third team in the tri-meet.

Bryn Mawr will then travel to Severn on Friday afternoon to meet the Admirals.
