Field hockey: Bryn Mawr rallies to top Roland Park

Bryn Mawr unveiled a new $1.7 million athletic complex Friday that includes a turf field, permanent bleaches, fence and press box.

The Mawrtians also celebrated a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over heated rival Roland Park as junior forward Molly Danko scored both goals in the final seven minutes.

Danko's goals came 1:22 apart in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference game.

"I think when Roland Park scored, we woke up a little bit," Bryn Mawr coach Jeanette Budzik said. "That's how I know they can play. We are looking forward to them doing that every game. We don't want to wait until the last seven minutes to score, but we want to play like we did the last seven minutes."

Bryn Mawr dominated Roland Park in the first half, outshooting the Reds, 7-1. But thanks to the stellar play of goalie Katherine Barley (7 saves), Roland Park frustrated the Mawrtians.

The Reds went ahead 1-0 with 17:27 remaining when Landon Warren beat a defender and fired a low shot past keeper Claire Edelman.

About 10 minutes later, Bryn Mawr finally solved Barley. Danko knocked a shot past Barley.

Only 1:22 elapsed before Danko scored her second goal. Stuart Ferrell was credited with the assist.

"The grit they played with today was incomparable," Roland Park first-year coach Eliza McLaren said. "They are the grittiest, most intense team I have ever seen out on the field. It's too bad it didn't work out for them today."
