Metropolitan Boulevard is only solution to Rolling Road traffic problem

Kudos to Frances Oldfield and her letter ("Signal seen as only solution to slow Rolling Road traffic," Catonsville Times, July 13). As a longtime resident on South Newburg Avenue, I absolutely concur with her assessment of the traffic problems that exist.

Fancy crosswalks and other "band aids" that have been proposed at recent community meetings are not the answer.

Another significant factor connected to the traffic volume is accidents. There have been quite a few over the last 20 years, some involving personal injury.

Unfortunately, I speak from personal experience, though no injury was involved.

The ultimate solution, obviously, would be to divert traffic away from South Rolling Road altogether.

When Metropolitan Boulevard, now known as I-195, was built, there was a extension planned that would have connected to Frederick Road, Edmondson Avenue or Route 40.

Admittedly a costly endeavor, it is the only sensible long view solution.
