Sparks-Glencoe Boy Scout Troop 485 announced two new Eagle Scouts: Charlie Ryan, of Sparks, and Benjamin Bemis, of Monkton.
Ryan was a Tiger, Bobcat, Wolf and Bear Cub Scout with Pack 485 before he bridged to Troop 485 in 2004. He earned the God and Country and God and Life awards as he became a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, in Parkton, where he has been a regular member of the youth group. For his Eagle project, he landscaped natural rock and fern gardens at Camp Puh’tok, in Monkton, using naturally occurring materials from the area. A recent graduate of Hereford High School, he is an AP Scholar and National Merit Scholarship Finalist. Ryan will attend University of North Carolina in the fall.
Bemis was a Tiger, Bobcat, Wolf and Bear Cub Scout with Pack 485 before he bridged to Troop 485 in 2004. He has been an award-winning senior patrol leader for the troop, as well as patrol leader for several distinguished patrols. For his Eagle project, he fenced in a field for the future expansion of the cemetery at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church. He is an active lifetime member of Cedar Grove Church. A 2011 graduate of Hereford High School, he was a member of the National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America and Envirothon. Bemis was honored by the Hereford Alumni Association as the Class of 2011 Outstanding Senior Boy. He will attend the University of Maryland-Baltimore County in the fall.
