Steele Stanwick led Loyola Blakefield to back-to-back Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference championships in 2007-08 before doing the same for the University of Virginia this spring.

On Thursday evening, the junior attackman from Roland Park garnered the sport's top individual honor as well, winning the coveted Tewaaraton Trophy, awarded annually to the top male collegiate lacrosse player.

Stanwick becomes the third Cavalier and the first former Baltimore-area prep player to win the award since Friends School grad and Johns Hopkins senior midfielder Kyle Harrison was picked in 2005.

"This award means a great deal to me," Stanwick said in a Virginia press release. "This is something I have been dreaming about since I was young. I am really humbled by the honor and I wouldn't be here without my teammates."

Stanwick finished the season third in the nation with 2.24 assists per game and fourth with 4.12 points per game.

The two-time Towson Times/Baltimore Messenger Player of the Year tallied 21 points (9 points, 12 assists) in the 2011 NCAA Tournament to lead the Wahoos.

He was named to the All-NCAA tournament team, is the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year and a first-team All-America selection.
