Family of exchange student killed in Australia planning life celebration

The father of a 16-year-old St. Paul's School for Girls student who died in a boating accident in Australia said Wednesday he has not set a date for a funeral in Baltimore.

"The body is still in Australia and will not return until next week. The burial will not be until late next week," said Timothy L. Mullin Jr., Cameron O'Neill-Mullin's father. The family resides in Lutherville.

Mullin, an attorney with the firm of Miles and Stockbridge, said he was also planning a "life celebration" in her honor "in about a month."

Mullin said his daughter was on a high school exchange program at St. Hilda's School in Gold Coast, Australia.

"Cameron was a beautiful girl who embraced the exchange program with great enthusiasm, making many friends during her short time at the school, and taking part in all the activities the program offered," Peter Crawley, head of St Hilda's, said in an email.

While the school is currently on a break, he said both the St. Hilda's and St. Paul's communities "have rallied together in support of the grieving families" and will pray for them.

O'Neill-Mullin, who was born in Baltimore, attended the Cedarcroft School before enrolling at St. Paul's. Her father said he could not comment further at this time.

On Tuesday, O'Neill-Mullin was riding in a tube with two other girls at Goondiwindi Natural Heritage and Water Park when they were thrown on a turn and hit a tree, according to a report in The Australian newspaper. O'Neill-Mullin and Paris Wilson, 16, were killed, and Wilson's 12-year-old sister was in critical condition, the report said.

Meanwhile, friends, loved ones and strangers are expressing their condolences on a memorial Facebook page, R.I.P Paris and Cameron.
