Cockeysville-area water main break affects about 200 residents

Cockeysville-area residents were being asked to conserve water after a main break caused a drop in water storage in nearby towers, according to a Baltimore public works spokesman.

The break was reported in the 10700 block of Lakespring Way at 4 a.m., but crews took longer to locate and shut down valves to isolate the break due to the snow cover, said the spokesman, Kurt Kocher.

Water service was shut off to about 200 customers in the immediate vicinity of the break by 11:30 a.m. while crews dug up the main, Kocher said. Conservation measures would be in effect for a little while longer, he said, to give the tanks a chance to replenish.

Residents who still had running water were asked to take steps such as not running dishwashers and washing machines, taking short showers and not letting water run. The boundaries for the conservation area are Timonium Road on the south, York Road on the west, Paper Mill Road to the north, and Dulaney Valley Road/Jarrettsville Pike on the east.

"If you live in the Cockeysville area, don't do anything unnecessary," Kocher said.

Both the Springlake tower at 200 E. Padonia Road and the Springdale tower at 906 Bosley Ave. are affected, he said.

"Both towers are losing water storage, which means that very shortly people can expect to have low water pressure," Kocher said.
