The condition of a pedestrian struck by a driver charged with DUI in Cockeysville has deteriorated, according to a Baltimore County Police spokeswoman.
The victim had been walking her dogs at 6:01 a.m. Tuesday when she was struck by a 2002 GMC Yukon, said police spokeswoman Louise Rogers-Feher.
The driver, 18-year-old Shetmiyah Robinson of the first block of Sunnyvale Court in Cockeysville, was charged with driving under the influence, Rogers-Feher said.
He was released in accordance with Baltimore County's policy, spokesman Lt. Robert McCullough said. This was his first such offense, he said.
Robinson had been driving westbound on Scott Adam Road when he crossed the center line into the eastbound lane and onto the eastbound sidewalk, where he struck the victim, Rogers-Feher said.
The pedestrian, whose name was not released by police, was carried onto the vehicle and projected into the yard of a house, Rogers-Feher said. The victim was taken to Sinai Hospital with serious injuries and was moved to Johns Hopkins Hospital in critical condition, the spokeswoman said.
Neighbors are caring for the dogs, who were not injured, Rogers-Feher said.
