Police identify victim of Dundalk fire

Baltimore County police identified the woman who died in a Dundalk fire Sunday morning as 57-year-old JoAnn Julian, and investigators said it began because she was smoking in bed.

The blaze, which occurred about 6:30 a.m. at Julian's house in the 2900 block of Yorkway, started in the basement, where crews found Julian unconscious. She was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where she later died.

Investigators said Julian accidentally ignited bedding materials while smoking.

Three other women, ages 13, 24 and 34, were also found in the house. Firefighters were able to rescue them from the second floor of the home.

The home was equipped with battery-operated smoke detectors, but investigators said they did not activate.
