Man arrested in Reisterstown stabbing

Police arrested a 22-year-old man in the stabbing of another man during a fight in a gas station in Reisterstown.

Darren Jay Burke, who has no fixed address, was picked up Thursday in Baltimore after last-month's assault of a 20-year-old man at a Shell station in the 11900 block of Reisterstown Road.

On Oct. 12, Baltimore County police obtained an arrest warrant for Burke, whom they had been unable to find for questioning, and issued a public appeal for help in tracking him down. A cash reward of up to $2,000 was offered, but it was not clear Friday whether his arrest had resulted from a tip.

Police said an attempted murder charge was pending against Burke. The incident that prompted his arrest took place shortly after midnight on Sept. 9, when officers responded to the gas station on reports of a fight. Arriving officers said they found about seven people embroiled in the melee, most of whom ran from the scene at the officers' approach.

The man who remained had several lacerations to his upper body, and was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Detectives said they later determined that Burke was responsible for stabbing the man, whose name was not released by authorities.
