Man acquitted of charges that he sexually abused son

A man who stood trial on charges that he had forced his son to perform sexual acts as a form of "punishment" was acquitted Friday in Baltimore County Circuit Court.

After almost five hours of deliberation, the jury found the 37-year-old man not guilty of sexually abusing a minor, assault and two sexual-offense counts. The verdict followed the man's denial of the charges Thursday from the witness stand.

The boy, now 8, who is estranged from his father, also testified during the trial and said that his father had sought certain acts as punishment when the boy misbehaved. Prosecutors said the abuse took place between August 2008 and June 2009, and it became known only after the boy blurted it out to his sister.
