A 17-year-old Mount Airy resident set a state fair sale record Saturday with his 1,280-pound Grand Champion Market Steer, which sold for $24,960.

Jimmy Full, a member of the Howard County 4-H Beef Club, sold the steer for $19.50 per pound to Twin Arch Business Park and Van Mar Associates Engineering Firm at the 4-H/FFA Livestock Sale, according to a state fair news release.

The last record holder was Chet Stem of Westminster whose 1,276 pound prize-winning steer sold in 2009 for $9,251 to Giant Food in Timonium, a spokesman said.

Full, a student at Carroll Community College, plans to transfer to a university with an agriculture program and use the prize money toward school, the release said.

Other winners:

•Cooper Bound of Taneytown sold his 85-pound Grand Champion Market Goat to The Mill of Bel Air for $575.

•Ellen Moxley of West Friendship in Howard County sold her 256-pound Grand Champion Market Hog to Nusbaum Show Stock for $768.

•Tyler Rill of Hampstead in Carroll County sold his 136-pound Grand Champion Market Lamb to Spring Meadow Farm for $1,768.

The state fair continues through Sept. 6.
