Rescue teams recover man's body in Loch Raven Reservoir

Baltimore County fire and rescue teams have recovered the body of swimmer who disappeared in the Loch Raven Reservoir Thursday morning, according to county fire officials.

The man was fishing on the shore with two friends but went into the water, according to authorities. He experienced distress but the other two were not able to reach him before he went underwater.

Emergency crews responded at about 9:58 a.m. Specialized dive units from the city of Baltimore and Baltimore County are assisting with the recovery, according to county fire officials.

Officials are waiting to notify the man's family before releasing his name.

On July 21, county dive teams recovered the body of a Catonsville man who went swimming with two friends in the Liberty Reservoir. A 23-year-old Havre de Grace man drowned in the Loch Raven Reservoir in June. Baltimore County fire spokeswoman says the number of reservoir incidents are comparable to previous years.

Swimming is illegal at Liberty, Prettyboy and Loch Raven reservoirs. All three have steep drop-offs and swift currents, according to the Baltimore Department of Public Works.
