Baltimore County Police identified and charged a Baltimore man hit who an officer on foot with a stolen car Monday in Pikesville, officials said.
Ronald Leon Sykes, 26 of the 2800 block of W. North Avenue was charged with attempted murder of Corporal C. Bagley, after the officer spotted the Acura Legend at about 4:40 p.m. at a 7-Eleven on the corner of Reisterstown and Old Milford Mill roads, police said.
When he attempted to stop Sykes in the Acura, police said Sykes hit the officer as he stood outside of his police car. Police said the officer fired his gun several times just prior to being struck by the stolen car, but Sykes was not shot.
After getting hit, police said Bagley was able to return to his car, call for help and follow Sykes, who continued to drive westbound on Reisterstown Road. He crossed into the oncoming lanes, hitting a police car patrolling the area and green Buick also traveling eastbound on Reisterstown Road, police said.
Sykes then left the car and jumped a fence at the Suburban Club golf course where he was arrested, police said.
Bagley was taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma, where he was treated and released.
Sykes was not injured. He was charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, and traffic violations. He is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center with bail denied.
According to electronic court records, Sykes had twice pleaded guilty to theft, in 2002 and in 2003, serving less than a year in prison for each offense.
