Speed cameras were installed Monday in two more Baltimore County school zones, according to officials, bringing the total in the county to four.
The new cameras are in the 3900 block of Hollins Ferry Road by Lansdowne High School and in the 200 block of East Padonia Road near Dulaney High School.
This past September, Baltimore County passed legislation authorizing the installation of speed cameras in 15 school zones around the county. Four zones currently have speed cameras.
The school zone cameras, which will operate Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., will issue only warnings to speeders for the first 30 days. After that, the penalty will be a $40 fine.
"The speed program is about public safety," said police spokesman Lt. Robert McCullough. "It's about slowing people down around our schools."
The other two cameras, located near Arbutus Middle School on Sulphur Spring Road and Dundalk Middle School on Dunmanway, were installed in February. McCullough said the other two cameras have been up for at least three months.
"We've seen great success in slowing people down around these schools," he said.
