Catonsville residents are being asked to conserve water this weekend as Department of Public Works crews repair a 20-inch water main Saturday night.
The emergency repairs to the leaking main outside of the Catonsville Pumping Station on Powers Lane was scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. Saturday and continue Sunday evening if necessary, with work anticipated for completion Monday morning, according to a Baltimore City Department of Public Works news release.
If repairs are not completed overnight, the excavation area will be secured and the pumping station will be reactivated to allow the station water tanks to refill, keeping customers with service Sunday. However, residents in the ZIP codes 21043, 21207, 21228 and 21244 could experience low water pressure through Sunday.
Officials from the department are asking residents to conserve water through Monday morning to keep as many customers as possible with service, said Celeste Amato, spokeswoman with the department.
"Water lasts as long as the tanks are full," she said.
Residents in that area should have a bottle of water in case of a total water outage. "Repairing a leak can become a break," she said.
