Woman killed in weekend pedestrian accident

A 31-year-old woman was killed in Baltimore County on Saturday night after she was struck by a vehicle as she attempted to cross the street, police said.

Rebekah Hamman, 31, of the 5500 block of Pilgrim Road, was pronounced dead at Maryland Shock Trauma Center at 9:30 p.m. after she was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on Bel Air Road, according to Lt. Robert McCullogh, spokesman for the Baltimore County Police Department.

A preliminary investigation determined that Hamman was crossing Bel Air Road, just south of Still Meadow Road, when she ran into the path of the vehicle. Police said it appears that she tried to outrun the vehicle after she had started across the street.

When Hamman was hit by the car, she was thrown into the northbound lane of Bel Air Road, McCullough said. The driver did stop and called police, he said. No charges are pending against the driver, whom police did not name.
