Margaret E. Lucas, a retired Social Security Administration project leader, died in her sleep Tuesday at her Catonsville home. She was 62.

The daughter of a Mass Transit Administration bus driver and a homemaker, Margaret E. Drayton was born in 1947 in Ravenel, S.C., and moved with her family to East Baltimore in 1951.

She was a 1967 graduate of Eastern High School and earned an associate's degree from what was then Catonsville Community College.

Ms. Lucas began working at the Social Security Administration's headquarters in Woodlawn in 1970 and at the time of her 2007 retirement was a project leader.

She was a member of New Psalmist Baptist Church in Edmondson Village, where she was president of the Rhema Scripture Reading Ministry.

Ms. Lucas was an avid reader and was a fan of Christian and secular fiction, family members said.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at her church, 4501¿ Old Frederick Road, Edmondson Village.

Surviving are her daughter, Nicole Gasque of Dundalk; her father, Jesse Drayton of Catonsville; two sisters, Wilhelmina James of Owings Mills and Patricia Cooper of Catonsville; and three grandchildren. Her marriage ended in divorce.
