State trooper injured by hit-and-run driver

A Maryland State Trooper was injured just before midnight Friday night by a hit-and-run driver who smashed into his marked cruiser on the inner loop of the Baltimore Beltway at Park Heights Ave.

State police said Trooper C. Smith suffered back and neck pain and was treated at Greater Baltimore Medical Center after the incident, which occurred at 11:58 p.m. Friday. He was sitting in his cruiser , which was slightly protruding into the fast lane of the inner loop, police said, when a dark car, possibly a Honda, hit it from the rear and then drove away. The car would have damage to its right front side and is missing the driver side door mirror, police said.

State police said Smith was treated and released.
