Richard Carl Merriken Sr., a retired Westinghouse Electric Corp. manager and a longtime volunteer firefighter, died Feb. 20 at Season Hospice at Northwest Hospital Center of complications from a fall in his Reisterstown home.

He was 82.

Mr. Merriken was born in Baltimore and raised in Odenton and Pikesville. He was a 1945 graduate of Franklin High School and served in the Army from 1945 to 1947 at Fort Meade.

He had worked at Westinghouse for 35 years as a logistics manager until retiring in 1985.

Mr. Merriken was a lifetime member and former president of the Glyndon Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Baltimore County Volunteer Firemen's Association.

He had been active in the Boy Scouts for 61 years and was a member of American Legion Post 116, Disabled American Veterans and the Chestertown Elks Lodge 2474.

He was a communicant of All Saints Episcopal Church in Reisterstown, where services were held Wednesday.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, the former Mary Randall; three sons, Richard C. Merriken Jr. of Columbia, Ronnie Merriken of Reisterstown and Randall Merriken of Charleston, W.Va.; a brother, Thomas Merriken of Joppa; three sisters, Betty Jane Treuting of Pikesville, Vida Wheeler of Mill Valley, Calif., and Doris Jean Edwards of Finksburg; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
