A trial date has been set for two women charged with disorderly conduct in an altercation with a Baltimore County police officer last fall.

Kelli D. Oliver and Talaya R. Kirkland -- the daughter and granddaughter, respectively, of Baltimore County Councilman Kenneth N. Oliver -- will be tried on April 21 in District Court in Catonsville.

The case will be handled by a prosecutor from the State's Attorney's Office in Baltimore City, Haven Kodeck, as opposed to a member of the county prosecutor's office, a common practice when a defendant is linked to a governing body such as, in this case, the County Council.

The two women were arrested on Sept. 14 after they flew into an obscenity-laden rage against a police officer who pulled them over on Old Court Road in Randallstown after noting that a rear light on their car was not working. In addition to the disorderly conduct charges, Oliver, 40, was charged with second-degree assault and resisting arrest, and Kirkland, 22, with obstruction.

The officer, Gregory Graves, reported that as he approached the women's car he was "immediately met with yelling and attitude over the traffic stop," and both invoked the councilman as they threatened to have him fired. Graves said Oliver had bitten, scratched and kicked him as he tried to place her in handcuffs.
