Maryland State Police were investigating a fatal hit-and-run incident Monday morning on the outer loop of Interstate 695 at Baltimore National Pike near Catonsville.
Richardo Manchome, 29, of Amleht Court in Pikesville stopped on the shoulder of the Beltway when his Ford pickup broke down, according to police. As he was examining the engine from the driver's side of the truck, a car veered onto the shoulder and struck him, police said. He was thrown about 50 feet from the truck and died at the scene.
The car, reported to be a black Honda or Acura, fled the scene and exited the Beltway onto Route 40 east toward Baltimore. Police said the car would have sustained heavy front-end damage and may be missing a right front fender. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP or metrocrimestoppers.net.
Two other Monday morning accidents in Baltimore County hospitalized four people, three of them in critical condition, according to authorities.
In the first accident, two men and a woman were ejected from a westbound pickup truck about 5:30 a.m. on U.S. 40. County police said all three victims landed in a lot at Martin's East near Holley Drive and were taken by ambulance to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore in critical condition.
Police identified Ever Portillo Orellana, 19, of the 1600 block of 4 Georges Court in Dundalk as the driver, and Xrexar Portillo Orellana, 26, and Maria Portillo, 30, of the same address as Ever Orellana, as the passengers. Investigators believe speed was a factor.
About two and a half hours later, a man driving in the 9800 block of Reisterstown Road in Garrison hit a taxi, swerved into a pole, and his vehicle overturned several times, police said. Clemmis Tommy Futrell, 44, was flown to Shock Trauma. He was expected to survive, according to police.
