Two men found dead in Towson apartment; police investigating as double homicide

Two men were found dead with signs of physical trauma in an apartment in Towson, and Baltimore County police are investigating the deaths as a double homicide, officials said.

A maintenance worker doing routine work discovered the two victims at about 9:19 a.m. Monday in a fifth-floor apartment at 20 Lambourne Apartments, on 20 Lambourne Road, according to Cpl. Shawn Vinson, a county police department spokesman.

The men’s identities and ages were not released, nor did police name the person who leases the apartment where they were found.

The men's identities and ages were not released, nor did police name the person who leases the apartment where they were found.

Vinson declined to say where in the apartment they were found, and as of late Monday police had offered no additional details.

"It's a secured-access building, so that's one of the things we're looking into," Vinson said. "Hopefully we'll know more once the autopsy's done."

UDR Inc., the company that owns the complex a few blocks north of the Towson traffic circle, did not respond to a request for comment, and a worker at the apartments said a manager was unavailable.

Baltimore County Councilman David Marks, a Republican who represents Towson, said the apartment building has "a lot of students and a lot of senior citizens."

He called the incident "unusual."

"We're just not used to these type of things in Towson," Marks said.

Baltimore County recorded 35 homicides in 2017, and the same number in 2016, according to county police data.

While county police did not release information about those found dead Monday, Towson University police sent out a notice to students, faculty and staff "as a precaution," according to a statement from Sean Welsh, the university's director of media relations.

"We are communicating what we know to our campus community. We are aware that some Towson University students live in this off-campus complex," the statement said.

Officials at Goucher College, which is also nearby, had no comment Monday.

The 20 Lambourne complex is about a block off busy York Road in Towson. Residents expressed surprise at the incident, saying the neighborhood is generally quiet.

Maddi Sacks, a Towson University student who lives in the building, said the community is nice, with a lot of students.

Sacks called the news of the homicides "just scary and bizarre."

Beverly Frilling, who has lived across the street from the apartment building for seven years, said she and her husband came home Monday from the nearby Bykota Senior Center to see a police car at the complex.

Learning of the news, Frilling called the deaths "really sad."

The building where the men were found had a bit of a reputation as a "party unit," she said, but nothing like the killings had ever happened there before.

"I'm surprised that something like this happened. This is a nice place," said John Williams, who lives on the second floor of 20 Lambourne.

"Usually nothing like that happens in Towson," he said. "Hopefully everything stays the same: safe."

Baltimore County police asked anyone with information to call at 410-307-2020.
