The Baltimore County Department of Health is warning the public about a rabid fox.

The health department said it was notified Tuesday that a fox recovered from a neighborhood in Pikesville May 29 has tested positive for rabies.

Officials say any person or pet which has been bitten, scratched or licked by a fox in the area between May 15 and May 29 is at risk and should be checked.

Rabies is a viral disease that causes inflammation of the brain in humans and other warm-blooded animals. Early symptoms can include fever and tingling at the site of exposure. The symptoms are followed by one or more of the following symptoms: violent movements, uncontrolled excitement, fear of water, an inability to move body parts, confusion and loss of consciousness.
