The night Dorothy Grubb went missing, police say, a witness heard the 60-year-old woman and her boyfriend arguing in their Dundalk home and then a loud noise that "sounded like a firecracker."
Now the boyfriend, Clyde Campbell III, 53, is being held on weapons charges in lieu of $250,000 bond, and Grubb remains missing.
Baltimore County police say they found a .44-caliber revolver, a .30-30 bolt-action rifle and ammunition in his home in the 1700 block of Manor Road. Campbell, a convicted felon, is prohibited from possessing the rifle or the ammunition.
Police say Grubb's daughter reported her missing on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. The daughter told police she had not seen her mother since Thursday evening. She said she was worried about Grubb's safety because the woman and her boyfriend had a history of domestic violence, police say.
Police say a witness heard the couple arguing Thursday night. When the argument became especially intense, the witness told detectives, she pressed her ear to the wall and heard screaming, followed by a "loud 'snap' or 'pop' noise," police say.
Campbell has been forbidden to possess a rifle or shotgun since he was convicted of drug possession in 1988, police say. His convictions of second-degree assault in 2001, and of making repeated, harassing phone calls in 2008, would also disqualify him from possessing such weapons.
On Sunday, Baltimore County police warned on their Facebook page that Grubb was missing and might be with Campbell in his white Ford truck.
Police found Campbell in his truck that day with his 14-year-old son and charged him with possession of a rifle or shotgun by a convicted felon and illegal possession of ammunition.
Police say they consider Grubb a "critical" missing person because of concerns about her safety. Homicide detectives are investigating.
Police describe Grubb as a white woman with brown hair and brown eyes. She is 5 feet 5 inches tall and 120 pounds. She was last seen wearing blue jeans and a T-shirt. Police are asking that anyone with information call 410-307-2020.
