A temporary protective order against a state legislator who allegedly slapped his daughter during an argument has been extended one week.
A Baltimore County judge rescheduled a hearing about whether to grant a permanent protective order against Del. Hasan "Jay" Jalisi for next week after neither Jalisi nor his attorney appeared in court. On the phone, Jalisi's attorney told the court that Jalisi had not received service of the temporary order.
Court documents show that Jalisi's daughter, 18-year-old Alizay Jalisi, applied for a protective order after her father slapped her during an argument in late February.
The order also asks for protection for Jalisi's wife and son.
In a statement emailed to The Baltimore Sun, Jay Jalisi said "I love my daughter very much and I have always had her best interest at heart. Parenting of a child, especially a teenager, is hard for everyone and my family and I are working to resolve this situation privately and quickly. I am confident that it would be resolved very soon. I request everyone to allow us some privacy in dealing with this family matter."
Jalisi, a Democrat, was elected in November to represent District 10 in Baltimore County. He is a member of the House Judiciary Committee.
House of Delegates Speaker Michael E. Busch declined to comment on the matter.
"Until I hear differently, I consider it a pending case," he said.
