Several drivers were injured in an eight-car pileup that brought traffic to a halt at Shawan and York roads near Hunt Valley Towne Centre Monday afternoon, Baltimore County police said.
Six drivers were hospitalized but none of their injuries were life-threatening, police said.
A vehicle driving north on York Road toward Shawan Road was speeding at 3:50 p.m. when it struck another vehicle and started a "chain reaction" that caused six more cars to crash, police said.
The cause of the crash and a full account of the drivers' injuries wasn't immediately available, "given the sheer number of cars involved," said Cpl. John Wachter, a Baltimore County police spokesman.
The Crash team is investigating, and the York Road remained closed between Shawan and Shilling roads for several hours Monday evening.
