Fitness model from Maryland struck and killed by train

George Plitt Jr., a fitness model and reality star from Maryland, was struck and killed by a train Saturday.

BURBANK, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a Maryland native and fitness model featured on the cover of numerous magazines was killed after he was struck by a train in Southern California.

Burbank Police Sgt. Scott Meadows says George Plitt Jr. and two other men were filming on the tracks north of Burbank on Saturday afternoon when Plitt was hit by a southbound Metrolink train.

The Los Angeles County coroner's office says Plitt was 37.

Burbank police Sgt. Chris Canales says investigators have ruled out a suicide. He says witnesses reported that the train's horn was blaring before Plitt was struck.

Canales says Plitt went by the name Greg and was a well-known fitness model.

Plitt was a Lutherville native. He attended Gilman School, where he wrestled and played football and golf. He went on to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 2000 and served five years as an Army Ranger. In his final two years of service, he was discovered as a potential model. He appeared on the cover of Muscle and Fitness magazine before beginning a television career.

Plitt's website says he has appeared on more than 200 magazine covers and a variety of television shows.
