Police say Glenelg woman struck by CSX train in Pikesville

A 21-year-old woman from Glenelg is in critical condition after she was hit by a CSX train in Pikesville Thursday night, Baltimore County police said.

Baltimore County police and fire units were called at 7:45 p.m. to the train tracks near the intersection of Sudbrook Lane and Greenwood Road and found the woman, who was conscious and breathing.

Her family could not be reached for comment Friday morning.

CSX spokesman Rob Doolittle said the area does not have fences, but is separated behind an industrial area. "It hasn't been an area where there has been major pedestrians issues," he said.

The train had three locomotives and eight cars of freight, and had originated in Baltimore and was headed to Owings Mills.

"This sort of incident highlights the danger of pedestrians walking along train tracks," Doolittle said. "Modern freight trains are surprisingly quiet. We do what we can to discourage [pedestrians] from walking on train tracks."

He said tracks are on private property owned by CSX.
