Balto. Co. reaches labor deal with public health nurses

Unionized public health nurses in Baltimore County have agreed to a two-year contract extension that provides job security through June 2016, county officials said Thursday.

The deal with the Baltimore County Federation of Public Health Nurses guarantees no layoffs or furloughs through the contract period. It also gives members a 3 percent bonus in November 2014 and a 3 percent cost-of-living increase in July 2015.

The agreement is similar to one the county recently reached with paramedics and firefighters.

The nurses' contract was set to expire next June. In a statement, union President Karen Pilecki said the agreement "recognizes the important work that nurses and nurse practitioners do in Baltimore County."
