Milford Mill man charged in Thanksgiving stabbing

A Baltimore County man was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center after he was stabbed Thanksgiving evening by an apparently intoxicated man in Pikesville, Baltimore County Police said.

Police arrested a resident of the Milford Mill area at his nearby home.

The victim, 51-year-old Douglas Gray of the 8700 block of Church Lane, was taken to the hospital for non-fatal stab wounds, police said.

The stabbing occurred at about 7 p.m. Thursday in the area of Langrehr and Liberty roads in Milford Mill, Northwest Baltimore County. Police said Gray saw a drunken man disrupting traffic entering a parking lot in the 8100 block of Liberty Road. Police said he asked the man to get out of the way of vehicles trying to park before the man smashed a beer bottle and stabbed the victim in the abdomen.

The assailant then fled. Gray was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Police said Gilberto Y. Mendez, 24, of the 3500 block of Langrehr Road has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault. He is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center after bail was denied.
