Bomb threat at Kenwood High School turns out to be false

Kenwood High School in Essex closed early Friday while Baltimore County police investigated a possible bomb that turned out to be old piece of pipe.

Several school officials had received an email which initially was thought to be a threat but turned out to be spam, police said. School officials noticed the email about 5:30 a.m. and notified police, who responded to the school and found what resembled a pipe bomb outside.

The school was evacuated and Baltimore County school officials dismissed students at 9:30 a.m. while police remained at the school for hours investigating. Police said the Hazardous Devices unit investigated the object, which they determined to be a piece of pipe.

Police searched the entire building and grounds and found no threats to the school.
