Murder-suicide in Parkville under investigation

A woman found dead in her Parkville home was murdered, Baltimore County police said Thursday, and her death is being investigated as part of a murder-suicide.

On Wednesday afternoon, police found Evelyn Delene Hofferberth, 66, in the basement of her home in the 2700 block of Sarah Lane, with a large pool of blood around her head.

Hofferberth's daughter had received a call from her mother's workplace when Hofferberth failed to show up for work for two days. When another family member checked up on her, they found her dead and called police.

Shortly before police received that call that sent them to the home, they also received an anonymous tip that Hofferberth had been killed by her grandson, who lived with her, police said.

According to that tip, Brett Michael Hofferberth, 21, had also taken the victim's car.

Police said they later found the car on Loch Raven Drive off Dulaney Valley Road. Brett Hofferberth was inside, and had died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Homicide detectives are continuing to investigate. No motive was given for the slaying.
